OVERVIEW

Portland Cement Malawi Limited invites applications from suitably qualified, highly motivated team players and result driven candidates for consideration to fill the following position.

The Turner (Lathe Operator) is responsible for operating conventional lathes for machining and repair of mechanical parts in accordance with provided drawings and tolerance specifications. The role involves performing turning, boring, threading and taper machining, accurately using measuring instruments, conducting self-inspections, and maintaining appropriate records. The position also supports the maintenance team during equipment overhauls, ensuring proper care and routine maintenance of lathe equipment and compliance with all workshop safety requirements and PPE use standards.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of lathe operation experience; cement plant/mining/heavy industry preferred.
  • Proficient in conventional lathes (C6140/C620); CNC preferred; able to read mechanical drawings independently.
  • Responsible, hardworking, adaptable to hot and dusty environment, willing to work overtime and shifts.
  • Good health, no occupational contraindications; basic English communication preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate conventional lathes for machining and repair of mechanical parts.
  • Perform turning, boring, threading and taper machining per drawings and tolerance specifications.
  • Use calipers, micrometers and dial indicators properly; conduct self-inspection and keep records.
  • Perform daily maintenance, cleaning and fault reporting of lathe equipment.
  • Support the maintenance team in parts machining during equipment overhaul.
  • Comply with workshop safety rules and wear PPE correctly.
