Job Description

The Study Coordinator will work as part of Partners in Hope Science Department team. This position will oversee a research project conducted at PIH in collaboration with University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). The Study Coordinator will be responsible for all study activities, including communication with the PI and local staff, training the study team, managing logistics for study implementation, directly supervising research assistants, conducting frequent site visits, and producing study reports. The Study Coordinator will be directly responsible for all aspects of data collection, working closely with the rest of the Science Department staff and other Partners in Hope departments.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


Research Project Oversight:


Manage research projects


Oversee project lifecycle from start-up to closure


Ensure adherence to research protocols and ethical standards


Supervise Research Assistants on a project


Act as intermediary between Principal Investigator and Partners in Hope staff for UCLA projects


Coordinate with operations departments, clinical Programs, and M&E Departments


Coordinate patient recruitment, informed consent, enrollment, and data collection


Oversee randomization processes where applicable


Work with Data Management team to ensure data quality


Implement quality control measures across all project aspects


Handle general administrative tasks for research projects


Allocate and manage resources across projects


Regulatory Oversight:


Oversee all regulatory requirements for assigned research studies


Focus on Malawi National Health Science Research Committee (NHRSC) compliance


Provide support for UCLA IRB requirements


Document preparation and submission to IRB


Collaborate with investigators on initial submissions


Contribute to writing and editing regulatory documents


Compile necessary documentation for submissions


Manage delivery of applications to the NHSRC office


Follow up on pending applications through regular office visits


Proactively identify IRBs approaching renewal deadlines


Prepare and complete renewal applications in a timely manner


Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory matters


Facilitate communication between investigators and regulatory committees



Requirements

Qualifications:


A bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Science, or Clinical Research (or related field)


At least three years of experience working in health research in Malawi or a similar context


Experience working as a research coordinator, including experience managing Research Assistants


Efficient and effective organizational skills (will be expected to balance multiple tasks, respond promptly to emails, re-prioritize tasks based on last minute deadlines)


Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication between professionals with a variety of cultural backgrounds in a respectful and diplomatic manner, and enhance effective partnerships


Initiative and ability to develop and support research implementation and solve problems independently


Strong organizational and computer skills including MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel and Access


Ability to be based in Lilongwe, Malawi for a minimum of two years


Ability to travel within Malawi as part of research support


Ability to support and facilitate research collaborations between Malawi and UCLA-based investigators
