Job Description
Institution: Eagles Rising High School
Parent Organization: Pothawira (Safe Haven) Christian Organization
Partner Organization: ManyHopes
Location: Salima, Malawi
Reporting to: Board of Directors / Steering Committee
Intake: First student intake — September 2026
About Our Organizations
Eagles Rising High School is a flagship initiative of Pothawira (Safe Haven), a Christian organization founded in 2009 by Peter and Emma Maseko together with their daughter, Dr. Anne Alaniz. What began as a heartfelt mission to alleviate poverty and suffering in Salima has grown into a thriving community village dedicated to holistic, community-led development — empowering individuals, especially women and children, to live with dignity and realize their full potential.
Today, Pothawira operates an orphanage providing love and stability to vulnerable children, a medical clinic delivering essential healthcare, a primary school nurturing young minds, and a church fostering spiritual growth. Eagles Rising High School represents the next stage of this vision — extending Pothawira’s commitment to quality education and lasting change to the secondary level.
This project is delivered in partnership with ManyHopes, an international organization that partners with high-impact, locally-led organizations to rescue vulnerable children and raise them into men and women of influence through education. ManyHopes shares Pothawira’s conviction that lasting change comes from within communities, and its support helps equip Eagles Rising students to become catalysts for change in their own nation. Pothawira also works alongside Pothawira International, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) partner, to expand access to healthcare, education, and sustainable economic opportunity.
Position Overview
Eagles Rising High School is seeking a visionary and disciplined leader to serve as our inaugural Principal. As we prepare for our first student intake in September 2026, the Principal will be instrumental in transitioning the school from the construction phase to a fully operational center of academic excellence. The successful candidate will embody the LEADS framework — fostering an environment of leadership, ethics, and rigorous academic achievement — while carrying forward the shared mission of Pothawira and ManyHopes to empower young people to become agents of change in their communities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership & Curriculum
- Oversee the implementation of the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) curriculum with an emphasis on high-performance outcomes.
- Develop instructional strategies that maximize active learning and minimize passive tasks like excessive note-copying.
- Establish a robust teacher mentorship and evaluation program to ensure high pedagogical standards.
2. Institutional Culture (The LEADS Framework)
- Cultivate a school culture rooted in Christian values, integrity, and a strong work ethic, in keeping with Pothawira’s founding mission.
- Implement the “LEADS” organizational pillars across all departments (Leadership, Ethics, Academic Excellence, Discipline, and Service).
- Maintain high standards of student discipline and professional staff conduct.
3. Operational & Financial Management
- Manage the school’s budget and financial reporting using standardized accounting practices.
- Oversee the integration and maintenance of modern campus technology, including solar power systems and satellite internet.
- Coordinate with the Steering Committee on the final phases of campus construction and facility readiness.
4. Community & Stakeholder Relations
- Act as the primary liaison between the school, Pothawira’s broader programs, ManyHopes, the Ministry of Education, and the Salima community.
- Lead student recruitment efforts and engage with parents to build a supportive school-home partnership.
- Assist in drafting institutional reports and prospectuses for donor and partner engagement, including coordination with ManyHopes and Pothawira International.
