Organisation: SOS Children’s Villages Malawi

Position: Project Officers (4 Positions)

Locations:

• Mzuzu

• Lilongwe

• Blantyre

• Ngabu, Chikwawa

Employment Type: Full-Time Fixed Contract

Contract Duration: Two (2) Years (Renewable subject to funding availability and performance)

Reports To: Project Manager

OVERVIEW

SOS Children’s Villages Malawi is a non-governmental child protection and development organisation working to ensure that every child grows up with love, respect, security, and family care.

The organisation is seeking four (4) Project Officers to support the implementation of its Standard Project focusing on protecting children at risk of losing parental care through family strengthening, alternative care, and advocacy interventions.

The successful candidates will coordinate day-to-day project implementation, support community-based interventions, strengthen partnerships, and ensure effective monitoring and reporting of project activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Planning and Implementation

• Ensure project activities are implemented according to approved plans, budgets, and timelines.

• Mainstream gender, disability inclusion, and environmental considerations into project activities.

• Support identification and training of community facilitators and peer educators in Family Development Planning.

Capacity Building of Families and Communities

• Facilitate empowerment of families, caregivers, and community facilitators.

• Organise trainings on child rights, child development, and family empowerment.

• Support development and strengthening of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), including governance structures, policies, registration, and strategic plans.

Networking and Partnerships

• Develop and maintain partnerships with community structures, government departments, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

• Conduct stakeholder analysis and maintain updated stakeholder profiles.

• Support sustainability of community-based child support initiatives.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Monitor project activities and prepare timely progress reports.

• Update family files, programme databases, and partner records.

• Support data collection using appropriate monitoring tools.

• Conduct regular field visits to communities, CBOs, and family support groups.

• Monitor resource use to ensure alignment with approved budgets.

Problem Solving and Support

• Identify project challenges and work with the Project Manager to develop solutions.

• Support effective delivery of project activities.


CHILD SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

• Comply with SOS Children’s Villages Malawi safeguarding policies, Code of Conduct, and Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse (PSHEA) guidelines.

• Report any suspected cases of abuse or safeguarding concerns.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Agriculture, or any relevant qualification from a recognised university.

• At least three (3) years’ experience implementing child and community development programmes.

• Possession of a motorcycle licence is a must.

• Good understanding of child rights, rights-based programming, and management of CBOs.

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Strong report writing, training, facilitation, and communication skills.

• Good personal organisation skills and ability to work under pressure.

• Ability and willingness to travel to field locations.

• Experience in people management and teamwork is an added advantage.
