Position Summary

Seed Global Health is seeking a highly organized and experienced Project Manager to lead the day-to-day coordination and successful implementation of Seed's technical scope within a high-profile consortium project.

The project aims to strengthen maternal and newborn care across two health clusters in Blantyre and Lilongwe through facility upgrades, workforce capacity building, improved referral systems, enhanced community engagement, and robust monitoring, evaluation, learning, and adapting systems.

The Project Manager will ensure seamless coordination among Seed Global Health, consortium partners, and the Malawi Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS).

This is a national position based in Malawi, reporting to the Country Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Planning & Implementation

• Lead Seed's internal and consortium-level work planning, budgeting, and implementation tracking for all Seed-led activities
• Coordinate closely with consortium partners and MoHS to ensure aligned planning, joint work plans, and efficient delivery across the four main activity streams
• Support program start-up, governance structures, and coordination mechanisms at national, district, and facility levels
• Track progress against milestones and proactively address implementation bottlenecks

Technical Oversight & Activity Management

The project manager will oversee Seed's contributions to:

• Standards-based assessments of service readiness and clinical care at 8 targeted facilities (1 CEmONC + 3 BEmONC per district)
• Ensure effective delivery of health worker capacity building, including in-service training, bedside mentorship, preceptorship, simulation-based learning, and integration of key interventions (eMOTIVE bundle, quality improvement, mortality audits)
• Support integration of midwifery model of care approaches across facilities
• Strengthen emergency referral systems and community engagement strategies
• Support the deployment and supervision of Seed preceptors, mentors, and educators working at targeted facilities

Monitoring, Evaluation for Learning and Adaptation – Reporting

• Contribute to the development and implementation of the joint MEL framework, including indicators, DHIS2 dashboards, data quality assessments, and adaptive management processes
• Lead regular internal tracking of Seed's key performance indicators, deliverables, and milestones
• Facilitate monthly facility reviews, quarterly adaptive management sessions, stakeholder meetings, and ensure follow-up actions are implemented
• Prepare high-quality progress reports, quarterly reviews, and donor updates for Seed and the consortium

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

• Serve as a key point of contact for Seed within the consortium and with MoHS Reproductive Health Directorate and District Health Teams
• Support national and district-level coordination forums and technical working groups
• Ensure strong collaboration with the CDC Foundation on independent evaluation activities

Compliance & Operations

• Ensure all activities comply with donor requirements and organizational policies
• Support procurement and logistics for equipment, training, and program activities
• Support budget tracking and expenditure monitoring for Seed's activities in coordination with finance and administration team
• Manage project risks and support adaptive management in response to implementation challenges

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Global Health, Project Management, Nursing/Midwifery, Medicine, or a related field. Master's degree is an added advantage
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience managing maternal and newborn health or health systems programs. 1–2 years of clinical practice or working in clinical settings is an added advantage
• Demonstrated experience working in multi-partner or consortium-based programs
• Strong familiarity with Malawi's health systems and Ministry of Health structures
• Experience in donor-funded program implementation, coordination, and reporting
• Proven track record in project coordination, stakeholder management, and donor reporting
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Excellent stakeholder coordination and partnership management
• Strong understanding of: Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC), quality improvement, mentorship, and clinical training models
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with DHIS2, data use, and performance monitoring systems
• Willingness to travel frequently between Lilongwe, Blantyre, and target facilities

Working Conditions

• On-site based out of Malawi (Seed country office)
• Travel expected during partner engagements and team meetings
• Full-time schedule (40 hours per week)
