OVERVIEW

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that manages protected areas through Public-Private Partnerships with governments and communities across Africa. In Malawi, African Parks manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Liwonde National Park, Mangochi Forest Reserve, and Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.

African Parks is seeking a highly motivated and academically strong individual to join its team as a Procurement Officer at Majete Wildlife Reserve. This is a Graduate Development Opportunity designed to identify talented individuals with potential for long-term career growth through training, mentorship, and practical experience in procurement, logistics, inventory management, and compliance within a conservation environment.


JOB PURPOSE

The Procurement Officer will support and coordinate procurement activities while developing knowledge and skills in procurement systems, supplier management, inventory control, compliance, and operational support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROCUREMENT COORDINATION

  • Coordinate purchase requisitions and ensure procurement requests meet required standards.
  • Source quotations, support bid evaluations, and prepare procurement recommendations.
  • Track procurement requests and provide updates to relevant departments.
  • Support procurement planning and operational requirements.

PURCHASE ORDERS, APPROVALS & CONTRACTING

  • Prepare, issue, and monitor purchase orders.
  • Ensure procurement approvals follow organisational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and support supplier agreements.

SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain supplier records and approved supplier registers.
  • Support supplier onboarding and performance monitoring.
  • Assist with supplier evaluations, negotiations, and cost-saving initiatives.

SYSTEMS, RECORDS & COMPLIANCE

  • Capture procurement transactions in procurement and inventory systems.
  • Maintain complete and audit-ready procurement documentation.
  • Support internal, donor, and external audit processes.
  • Assist with electronic invoicing and stock reconciliation requirements.

DELIVERY, RECEIPTING & ASSET CONTROL

  • Verify received goods against approved specifications.
  • Support preparation of Goods Received Notes.
  • Assist with asset registration and inventory control.

FINANCIAL INTEGRITY & REPORTING

  • Promote transparent and accountable procurement practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of procurement information.
  • Report irregularities and support anti-corruption practices.
  • Prepare procurement reports and tracking updates.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Supply, Procurement Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Logistics Management, Commerce, Economics, or a related field.
  • Recent graduates and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience or exposure in procurement, purchasing, logistics, inventory management, finance, accounting, stores administration, or related areas will be an added advantage.
  • Professional qualification or progress towards CIPS certification is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of procurement principles and procedures.
