POSITION 1: RESEARCH ASSISTANT (TEMPORARY)
Department: MERIIT

JOB SUMMARY
The research assistant will play a pivotal role in supporting the data collection for a study project within APZU/PIH. Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator and/or Research Officer, the research assistant will receive a monthly stipend and necessary support to fulfill their responsibilities. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful research in the field of public health.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, social sciences, public health, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative/qualitative data collection and management.
- Prior experience in transcribing qualitative data.
- Proficiency in data management and analysis software such as Excel, SPSS and R.
- Proficiency in data collection tools such as CommCare, REDCap, and other similar platforms.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data accuracy and integrity.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Prior experience with data collection tools and techniques, such as survey design and administration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect quantitative data through various methods, including surveys, experiments, and data scraping techniques.
- Collect data through In-depth interviews, Key Informant interviews, Focus Group Discussions as well as observation.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of collected data by implementing quality control.
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of quantitative/qualitative data, including generating summary statistics, thematic coding and conducting basic statistical analyses.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, summaries, and visualizations of collected data.
- Stay informed about developments in data collection methodologies and contribute to the improvement of data collection processes.
- Any other duties assigned within the research department from time to time.

POSITION 2: QUANTITATIVE/QUALITATIVE DATA ANALYST (TEMPORARY)

JOB SUMMARY
The Quantitative/Qualitative Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting research, program evaluation, and evidence generation activities within Partners In Health/Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (PIH/APZU). The incumbent will be responsible for managing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting both quantitative and qualitative data to inform research findings, programmatic decision-making, policy development and quality improvement initiatives.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis, preferably in public health, research, development, or social science settings.
- Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative data analysis using SPSS, STATA, R, Python, or related software.
- Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative analysis using NVivo, Dedoose, Atlas.ti, or similar software packages.
- Strong understanding of statistical methods, research methodologies, and data management principles.
- Experience working with electronic data collection tools such as CommCare, REDCap, SurveyCTO, ODK, KoboToolbox, or related platforms.
- Proven ability to prepare technical reports, presentations, manuscripts, and research dissemination products.
- Experience supporting public health, implementation science, operational research, or health systems research studies will be an added advantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct statistical analysis of research, programmatic, and survey datasets in accordance with approved study protocols and analysis plans.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, management, and quality assurance to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of datasets.
- Analyze retrospective and prospective datasets using appropriate statistical methods and analytical techniques.

POSITION 3: PROGRAM MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY
The Program Manager is a senior member of the Operations Department and is responsible for leading the implementation of the Non-Negotiables Program Phase 2 (NNP2) in Malawi. The role provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for infrastructure investments aimed at improving the quality, safety, reliability, and sustainability of healthcare facilities supported by Partners In Health (PIH/APZU).
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Infrastructure Management, or another relevant engineering-related field.
- Professional certification in Project Management, Infrastructure Management, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 4 to 5 years of experience managing construction or infrastructure projects.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience implementing donor-funded projects.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, procurement oversight, contractor management, and infrastructure quality assurance.
- Experience with CMMS, asset management systems, or facilities management platforms is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the implementation of all NNP2-funded infrastructure activities across PIH/APZU-supported facilities.
- Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of infrastructure projects in accordance with approved timelines, budgets, quality standards, and donor requirements.
- Develop annual implementation plans covering large infrastructure projects, Quality Checklist Fund activities, Infrastructure Documentation Systems, Capital Infrastructure Needs Register, CMMS implementation and utilization, Training and Capacity Building, Facilities inventory management, and Tools and PPE management.
- Coordinate technical teams, including Electrical and WASH Engineers, to ensure high-quality project execution.
- Monitor project risks, schedules, procurement activities, contractor performance, and budget utilization.
- Ensure infrastructure projects are completed in compliance with approved technical specifications, safety standards, and organizational requirements.
- Coordinate project reviews and incorporate lessons learned into future projects and operational systems.
- Oversee project documentation including drawings, reports, completion certificates, inspection records, and handover documentation.
- Lead the implementation, utilization, and continuous improvement of the UPKEEP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Support the development and maintenance of comprehensive infrastructure asset registers for all supported facilities.

POSITION 4: NURSING PRACTICE & QUALITY LEAD

JOB SUMMARY
The Nursing Practice and Quality Lead is a senior member of the Clinical Leadership Team. The Nursing Practice and Quality Lead will play a central role in the implementation of PIH's core mission and values, clinical strategic planning, priority setting, and implementation. He/she will be responsible for working with nurses and midwives across clinical areas to strengthen nursing practice, identify gaps in clinical care, and accompany ministry of health nursing leadership to embed a culture of quality and safety in alignment with PIH's mission, APZU's strategic priorities, and Malawi's national health policies.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Nursing Education or Nursing and Midwifery with demonstrated experience in Nursing Leadership and Clinical education.
- Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi and in Good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Nurse Leadership position and 3 years in nurse teaching or academic position at a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated experience in training and development strategy formulation, curriculum design and adult learning methodology implementation.
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management experience within a health or academic institution.
- Experience in technology-enhanced learning platforms and simulation-based education is an asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic leadership as a member of the clinical leadership team, participating in clinical strategy setting, major operational and resourcing decisions that impact patient care, and translating into implementation.
- Serve as the primary lead with APZU leadership on nursing and midwifery practice and nurse/midwife-led care delivery, providing strategic direction for nursing and midwifery across community, primary, and secondary levels of care.
- Ensure nursing perspective is embedded in clinical planning and decision-making processes, including service expansion, budgeting, staffing models, and new program design.
- Act as the central coordinating lead for nursing and midwifery within APZU, facilitating effective communication, integration, and collaboration across departments, facilities, and clinical specialties.

- Establish and sustain relationships with Ministry of Health hospital nursing leadership at Neno District and Lisungwi Community Hospitals.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to establish unit-specific quality and safety indicators.
- Partner with frontline clinical staff to identify quality care gaps and priority issues.

POSITION 5: HVAC/ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

JOB SUMMARY
The HVAC/Electrical Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, electrical, and power backup systems across PIH/APZU-supported facilities. The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring that health facilities, staff housing, and operational infrastructure maintain safe, reliable, and uninterrupted electrical and environmental control systems that support quality healthcare delivery.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Diploma in HVAC, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) Technology, Grade 1 Electrical Installation, or a related technical qualification.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical maintenance, or facilities infrastructure management.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical installations, maintenance of power systems, generators, air conditioning systems, and refrigeration equipment.
- Experience working in healthcare facilities, institutional environments, or complex infrastructure settings will be an added advantage.
- Proven ability to perform preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, and equipment repairs.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of applicable electrical safety standards, maintenance protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Registration and membership with the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI) is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the planning, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC and electrical systems across PIH/APZU-supported facilities.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of air conditioners, refrigerators, cold rooms, ventilation systems, generators, power backup systems, and electrical installations.
- Conduct routine inspections of electrical and HVAC infrastructure to identify maintenance needs, system failures, and opportunities for improvement.
- Troubleshoot electrical and HVAC faults and implement timely corrective actions to minimize operational disruptions.
- Perform electrical installations including wiring, conduits, switches, sockets, lighting systems, distribution boards, and associated accessories.

POSITION 6: HIV AND TB CLINICAL OFFICER

JOB SUMMARY
The HIV and TB Clinical Officer is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered clinical and programmatic support for HIV and TB services across PIH/APZU-supported health facilities and surrounding communities in Neno District. The role works closely with Ministry of Health (MOH) teams to support HIV and TB case finding, linkage to care, treatment, patient retention, clinical follow-up, data management, quality improvement, mentorship, and program implementation.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Medicine.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Minimum 2–4 years' experience in clinical service delivery.
- Experience in HIV and TB clinical care is required.

POSITION 7: DATA ANALYST

JOB SUMMARY
The Data Analyst will be responsible for overseeing and supporting all clinical and research data collection pertaining to the IC3 Decentralization project. This will include ongoing data collection activities in CommCare, DHIS2, electronic medical records (EMR), Microsoft Excel, and paper-based data collection, as relevant.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications and Attributes:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Economics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Data Science, Computer Science, Epidemiology related field.
- Minimum of three years' experience with tablet-based data collection systems such as CommCare or ODK.
- Minimum of three years' experience utilizing data stored in electronic medical records systems.
- Minimum of five years' experience organizing, analyzing and presenting data in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint.
- Prior experience managing other members of data collection teams and executing quality assurance and quality improvement protocols.
- Expertise in survey design, quantitative and qualitative data analysis and program management.
- Experience with data management of mental health information a plus.
- Experience with Stata, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, SAS or other analytic software a plus.
- Native of Malawi, fluent in Chichewa and English with written proficiency in English.
- Willingness to live and work full time in a rural setting in Neno District.
- Willingness to travel throughout Neno District.
- Willingness to learn how to ride a motorbike for field work.
- Ability to work well in a dynamic team environment alongside health workers, support staff, and health personnel from a variety of backgrounds.
- Able to work under minimum supervision.
- A strong interest in learning social medicine.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish data collection systems: Work with M&E, Research and Medical Informatics team members, as well as the IC3 decentralization Program Manager, to design data collection models pertaining to IC3 decentralization activities including patient screenings, clinical assessments, and provider fidelity to protocols; Create all relevant materials including digital, electronic, and paper-based forms to be used for data collection purposes.
- Oversee IC3 decentralization program data collection and reporting processes.
- Manage, train, and mentor IC3 decentralization data collection staff including data clerks and psychosocial counselors.
- Maintain a high level of data quality in data collection systems, including CommCare, DHIS2 and the EMR.
- Notify APZU and MOH colleagues on data concerns to inform quality improvement projects.
- Generates analytical summaries, manuscripts, and presentations for internal, MoH, and donor audiences in line with requirements.
- Develops, maintains and reviews automated databases, Power BI dashboards, and reporting pipelines in collaboration with Informatics team.
- Provides technical guidance on study design, data collection tools, and analytical frameworks for program studies and research in collaboration with Research Department.
