OVERVIEW

The Export Development Fund (EDF) is a Development Finance Institution (DFI) mandated to promote the growth and diversification of Malawi's exports. EDF plays a central role in supporting industrialisation, facilitating trade, and accelerating economic transformation through innovative financing solutions and strategic investments.

EDF contributes directly to national development priorities, including the Malawi 2063 and the National Export Strategy (NES), by financing high impact projects across key productive sectors, promoting value addition, and enhancing export competitiveness.

POSITION 1: OFFICE ASSISTANT/CLEANER

Reports to: Administration Assistant

JOB TYPE: Full Time

ROLE PURPOSE

The Office Assistant/Cleaner's role is to support EDF's operations by providing excellent messenger services and high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the offices, meeting rooms, kitchen, washrooms and hallways.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

The applicants must possess the following qualifications, competencies and behaviours at a minimum:

  • A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in a busy working environment.
  • Basic knowledge and work experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage time, maintain confidentiality of information and management of working tools.
  • Sober habits, presentable character, good personal hygiene, courteous and customer focussed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, dust and sanitise workspaces.
  • Restock Executive Management offices, boardrooms and washrooms with supplies as and when required.
  • Deliver and collect mail – messenger support.
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as photocopying and filing.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.



POSITION 2: LEGAL SERVICES MANAGER & COMPANY SECRETARY

Contract Type: Fixed one-year term

JOB TYPE: Fixed Contract

JOB PURPOSE

EDF is seeking a strategic, results-oriented, and high-integrity Legal Services Manager & Company Secretary on a fixed one-year term.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and the Board of Directors, the Legal Services Manager & Company Secretary will be responsible for overseeing the organization's legal department, ensuring legal compliance, risk mitigation, efficient delivery of legal advice and handling Board matters.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) and a relevant Master's Degree will be an added advantage.
  • Licensing: Required to be a practicing lawyer and admitted to the bar and in good standing with relevant legal association(s).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a banking/financial services industry and a cumulative working experience of at least 5 years.

Required Skills:

  • Strong expertise in legal research, drafting, and analysis.
  • Excellent negotiation and mediation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal tech tools.
  • High standard of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and provide legal advice including legal representation on cases and various contracts between the Fund and outside parties.
  • Conduct legal due diligence on clients and potential partners and consultants.
  • Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management, especially on contract management.
  • Review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage external lawyers.
  • Undertake and enforce debt collection in line with the Fund's Credit and Investment Policy.
  • Taking lead in Board Pack preparation, compiling Board Resolutions, and taking minutes of the Board Committees and main Board of Directors' meetings.
  • Analyse a broad range of complex laws and regulations affecting the operations of the Company including those arising from corporate structures and business models.
  • Support the implementation of the Code of Conduct in the Company and promote an ethical and legally compliant business culture.
  • Monitor the Company's compliance with statutory, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Handle or oversee legal cases, coordinate with external counsel, and represent the organization in courts, tribunals, or arbitrations when necessary.
  • Produce periodic legal reports.
