Job Description
Overview
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill several Laboratory Technician positions in different faculties. Successful candidates will support teaching, research, and outreach activities within their respective fields.
Positions Available
• Laboratory Technician – Environmental Engineering
• Laboratory Technician – Computer Science
• Laboratory Technician – Food Science and Technology
• Laboratory Technician – Chemistry
• Laboratory Technician – Human Ecology
Key Responsibilities
• Support practical sessions and research activities.
• Assist academic staff with research projects, data collection, analysis, and report writing.
• Guide students on the proper use of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, materials, chemicals, and supplies.
• Operate and troubleshoot specialized equipment.
• Conduct routine maintenance and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Collect and analyze samples for research and quality assurance.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and resource inventories.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to support practical learning.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
Terms of Employment
• Initial two-year contract, with the possibility of permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance.
• Remuneration will be in accordance with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023).
Requirements
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in the relevant field obtained from a recognized university with a Credit.
• Candidates with a Master's Degree in the relevant field will have an added advantage.
• Minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience in a technical support role at a recognized university or research institution.
• Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Experience in laboratory testing, research data handling, and statistical tools.
• Experience in conducting experiments, maintaining records, and ensuring quality standards.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures.
