Job Description

The Hunger Project Malawi (THP-Mw), is a branch of The Hunger Project Global, a non-profit, organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. Our vision is a world without hunger. Our mission is to facilitate individual and collective action to transform the systems of inequity that create hunger and cause it to persist. THP-Mw has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently running programmes and projects in the following districts: Blantyre, Chikwawa, Neno, Nsanje, Machinga and Rumphi.

THP-Mw is looking for qualified, experienced and motivated personnel with strong work ethics to fill the following vacancies. All positions are tenable at the Head Office in Blantyre and are on a fixed period contract (Annual) renewable contingent to continued donor funding and individual employee performance.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to take a leading role in the implementation of THP-Mw’s Health, Nutrition and Gender programmes in all epicenter and special projects. The job holder works in close collaboration with THP-Mw’s Programmes, Finance and MEL teams. The position reports to THP-Malawi Country Manager.


Essential Functions

Health

  • Ensuring that health mainstreaming is effectively achieved in all the programmes
  • Providing expert opinions and technical support to program officers on health-related programmes
  • Planning and facilitating health related activities across all projects
  • Overseeing the operationalization of THP-Malawi’s HIV & AIDS workplace policy. Nutrition
  • Leading the implementation of all nutrition programmes of THP Malawi
  • Ensuring that Nutrition issues are properly mainstreamed across all programmes and projects (Food security, Education, WASH, Environment, MEL)

Gender

  • Ensuring that gender mainstreaming is effectively achieved in all programmes
  • Leading in implementation of Gender and or Women Empowerment projects
  • Provide expert opinion and technical support to Program Officers whilst ensuring that gender equality is achieved in THP Malawi’s programmes as well it processes

Responsibilities

  • To ensure that all specific Health, Nutrition and Gender projects set targets are fully attained/ achieved on time
  • To represent THP-Malawi, where necessary and as may be delegated by the Country Manager, on issues/forums related to Health, Nutrition and Gender.
  • To assist in preparation of Health, Nutrition and Gender programmes work plans and budgets With an objective of programmes growth, the job holder shall assist in preparing high-quality project proposals for funding from donors in the areas of Health, Nutrition and Gender
  • To assist in production of regular as well as donor activity progress reports on Health Nutrition and Gender components on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually basis as well as for end of project reports or as may be required by the specific donors)
  • To participate in National Advisory Council Meetings and provide necessary reports as may be required from time to time
  • To mobilize rural communities and empower community Animators’ work
  • To ensure that necessary and relevant records are kept within the set domain of THP-Malawi Support monitoring, evaluation and learning from programme implementation activities.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor or The Country Manager from time to time as the case may be.


Requirements

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Gender or its equivalent. Those with a Master’s degree will have an added advantage.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience working in a senior/leadership position in a Non- Governmental Organization. supporting Health, Nutrition and Gender programming.
  • Experience in working with multi-sectoral district teams
  • Be highly motivated, with strong work ethics.
  • Proactive attitude to problem solving and an inclination to work smart as part of a competent team.
  • Should possess excellent communication, planning and organization skills, and should be highly sociable and with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Health, Nutrition and Gender practices and policies.
  • Must possess basic advocacy and dissemination skills/competency.
  • Should demonstrate prolificacy in Project Management with qualities of tact, patience and diligence, when conducting his/her duties Should be able to work under pressure with a focus on priorities, meeting strict deadlines and team work.
  • Should be able to maintain confidentiality on sensitive and confidential matters and handle a complexity of issues at the same time and able to think outside the box.
