JOB DESCRIPTION
The GIS and Database Associate will provide technical support in managing displacement and climate-related data under the RE2CLID project. The role focuses on GIS mapping, database management, data collection, analysis, and ensuring high-quality information to support disaster risk reduction and evidence-based decision-making in Malawi.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
DATABASE & GIS MANAGEMENT
• Design and manage project databases including GIS maps and coordinates
• Maintain and update displacement and project site data systems
• Develop GIS products and spatial analysis outputs
DATA COLLECTION & MANAGEMENT
• Support development of data collection tools and methodologies
• Assist in collecting, processing, and managing displacement data
• Ensure proper storage, processing, and dissemination of data
QUALITY ASSURANCE
• Conduct data quality control and verification with field teams
• Ensure compliance with SOPs for data collection
• Maintain data protection and confidentiality standards
FIELD SUPPORT & CAPACITY BUILDING
• Train and supervise enumerators and field data collectors
• Support field teams during data collection exercises
• Build capacity of local stakeholders on data use
STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION
• Collaborate with government ministries, UN agencies, and local authorities
• Support use of data for decision-making and planning
• Contribute to dissemination of findings and recommendations
REPORTING & ANALYSIS
• Support preparation of reports and analytical outputs
• Assist in impact analysis of displacement and climate data
• Contribute to evidence-based reporting and documentation
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Earth Sciences, GIS, or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in GIS, data collection, or database management in humanitarian or development settings
• Experience using ODK, KoboToolbox, or similar mobile data tools
• Strong GIS skills and ability to produce maps and spatial data
• Experience in data analysis, reporting, and quality assurance
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Experience working with international organizations is an advantage
• Ability to work under pressure and in dynamic environments
