Position: Finance Officer

Reports To: Finance Coordinator

OVERVIEW
Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Finance Officer based at its Malawi Country Office in Lilongwe. The successful candidate will support the monitoring, reporting, and management of the Country Office’s finances while ensuring strong financial controls, compliance with donor requirements, and efficient financial processes.
The role also involves supporting treasury management, payroll processes, financial reporting, fixed asset management, audits, and strengthening the financial management capacity of staff and implementing partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the monitoring, reporting, and management of Country Office finances.
- Process payments and manage programme advances and liquidations.
- Support treasury management and maintain accurate financial records.
- Prepare journal entries and financial reconciliations.
- Support payroll processing and fixed asset management.
- Facilitate internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with Save the Children financial policies and donor requirements.
- Strengthen internal financial controls and financial management systems.
- Build the financial management capacity of staff and implementing partners.
- Support emergency response activities when required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy or a related discipline.
Experience
- At least three (3) years' experience in accounting.
- Experience in an NGO, corporate, or audit environment will be an added advantage.
- Experience in financial reporting, treasury management, reconciliations, and donor compliance.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong knowledge of financial systems, internal controls, and financial management procedures.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and computerised accounting systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
