Job Description

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi. Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer in Malawi.

ESCOM Limited is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant Executive Management position:

Purpose of the Job

To effectively plan, organize, direct, control and manage the Distribution Licensee, as a Strategic Business Unit (SBU), with complete responsibility over core activities of construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution network ensuring production efficiency, quality service and cost-effective management of resources in the Distribution and Customer Services Directorate of the Corporation.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Distribution and Customer Services shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Preparing Strategic Business Plans and budgets for Distribution and Customer Service Directorate.
  2. Ensuring that the operation and maintenance of the Distribution system and network and associated ancillary equipment are properly managed, with emphasis on quality and reliability of supply.
  3. Continuously monitoring progress of each sub-division and Department and taking corrective action or introducing adjustments or alternatives to strategy implementation as dictated by available resources.
  4. Preparing workplans for the Directorate that are derived from the Corporation’s business plans.
  5. Formulating policies, technical or otherwise relating to the Distribution operation and maintenance functions.
  6. Ensuring delivery of excellent customer service through timely response to customer needs, effective complaints handling, and proactive stakeholder engagement.
  7. Ensuring timely preparation of the Directorate’s Revenue and Capital budgets.
  8. Ensuring that Distribution and Customer Services Directorate function achieves set Corporation goals.
  9. Overseeing the transformation of customer experience in line with ESCOM’s Integrated Strategic Plan.
  10. Promoting a customer-centric culture within the Directorate, ensuring that service quality, reliability, and responsiveness remain key performance priorities.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Energy, or Energy Engineering and a Master’s degree in any of the above technical fields or Business Administration/Strategic Management from a recognized and accredited university.
  • Must be a registered member of the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI).
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in the field or industry, including at least five (5) years at a senior management level or higher.
  • Applicants with experience in the power supply industry will have an added advantage.

APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION

The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance-related contract for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal on satisfactory performance.
