VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Customer Data & Program Officer

Company: Africa Sun Power Limited (AFSP) – Solar E-Cooking Discount Program

Location: Hardelec House, Victoria Avenue, Blantyre / Njamba, Blantyre, with moderate travel to rural communities across Malawi.


About the Company

Africa Sun Power Limited (AFSP) is a locally incorporated private organisation implementing innovative off-grid solar electric cooking solutions in Malawi. AFSP has been awarded a CLASP/MECS Venture Building Grant to validate the technical performance, commercial viability, and investability of its battery-enabled Off-Grid Solar E-Cooking Systems (OGSECS).

As part of this programme, AFSP is establishing a customer monitoring and carbon credit reporting system to track energy usage and support performance-based incentives for customers.

AFSP is inviting applications from suitably qualified and motivated candidates to fill the position below.


Reporting Structure

Administratively: Program Finance & Logistics Manager

Technically: Operations Manager


Contract Duration

One (1) year contract, renewable subject to funding availability and performance. A three (3) month probation period will apply.


Job Purpose

The Customer Data & Program Officer will be responsible for managing customer data systems and supporting the implementation of AFSP's solar electric cooking monitoring and discount programme. The role involves collecting, verifying, and maintaining customer usage data, supporting customer engagement, and ensuring accurate tracking of energy consumption for carbon credit allocation, incentives, and programme reporting.


Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Database Management

Design, establish, and maintain a comprehensive customer database. Maintain accurate records for programme and non-program customers. Ensure secure storage and integrity of customer data. Capture customer details including location, system configuration, and usage history. Regularly clean and audit data for accuracy and completeness.

2. Data Collection & Monitoring

Collect customer energy usage data (kWh meter readings) through digital tools, device data cards, and field visits. Verify and validate data for accuracy and completeness. Monitor customer submission compliance and identify data gaps. Generate periodic reports on usage trends and programme performance.

3. Customer Engagement & Support

Serve as the primary contact point for programme participants. Follow up with customers who fail to submit usage data. Provide basic technical guidance and user support. Educate customers on system usage, programme benefits, and carbon credit incentives.

4. Carbon Credit & Incentive Tracking

Support the development and application of carbon credit allocation formulas. Maintain accurate records linking usage data to incentive calculations. Track and manage customer rewards and discount allocations. Support customers in redeeming earned benefits (e.g., solar equipment upgrades).

5. Programme Administration

Support onboarding of new customers into the discount programme. Maintain accurate programme documentation and records. Monitor compliance with programme rules and requirements. Coordinate with technical teams on meter installation and functionality.

6. Compliance & Exit Management

Monitor inactive or non-compliant customers. Manage forfeiture processes for programme non-compliance. Maintain records of forfeited credits and values. Report on compliance trends and recommend improvements.

7. Reporting & Coordination

Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering customer onboarding and exits, data submission compliance, programme performance and variance analysis, and carbon credit tracking and incentive allocation. Coordinate with technical, finance, and programme teams. Support donor reporting requirements on data and impact.


Requirements

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong data management and record-keeping skills
  • Good understanding of data collection systems and processes
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, WhatsApp, and digital data tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently in rural field environments
  • Problem-solving and attention to detail
  • High level of integrity and accountability


Qualifications & Experience

Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Experience: 1–2 years' experience in data collection or database management, and fieldwork in rural or community-based programmes. Experience in solar energy, clean cooking systems, or carbon credit programmes will be an added advantage.


Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel frequently to rural communities
  • Basic technical literacy (smartphones, Excel, data tools)
  • Ability to ride a motorbike is an added advantage (not mandatory)
