Job Description

NICO Asset Managers Limited, a leading investment and asset management company within the NICO Group, seeks to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Executive Officer. The position is tenable in Blantyre, Malawi.

Reporting to: Board of Directors

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for leading the strategic, financial, investment, operational and commercial performance of NICO Asset Managers Limited.

The successful candidate will be expected to drive business growth, strengthen investment performance, deepen client relationships, ensure regulatory compliance, develop high-performing teams, and position the company for continued leadership in the asset management and investment services sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for providing leadership across the following key dimensions:

1. Strategic Leadership & Business Direction:

  • Lead the development and execution of NICO Asset Managers Limited's strategic business plan in alignment with the broader NICO Group strategy
  • Identify long-term strategic priorities, market opportunities and growth areas for the business
  • Strengthen the company's competitive positioning within the asset management, investment and corporate finance sectors
  • Translate strategy into annual operating plans, performance targets and measurable execution priorities
  • Create and leverage synergies within the NICO Group to support business growth and client value creation

2. Investment Management & Client Value Creation:

  • Provide executive oversight over investment management activities, client mandates and investment performance
  • Ensure that client funds are managed prudently, professionally and in accordance with approved mandates, policies and regulatory requirements
  • Review investment reports and ensure timely, accurate and value-adding reporting to clients, the Board and relevant governance structures
  • Oversee the identification and assessment of investment opportunities that enhance client returns and support the growth of the business
  • Promote a strong fiduciary culture that protects client interests and strengthens trust in the company

3. Financial Performance & Commercial Growth:

  • Drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability and long-term shareholder value
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, expenditure control, financial reporting and revenue assurance
  • Monitor business performance against approved budgets and ensure timely corrective action where required
  • Lead business development initiatives, including client acquisition, client retention, proposal development, pitches and negotiation of investment management agreements
  • Strengthen institutional client relationships and expand the company's market reach

4. Governance, Risk & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that the company operates in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, directives, licence conditions and internal governance requirements
  • Oversee the renewal and maintenance of all relevant operating licences
  • Ensure effective preparation and submission of Board reports, regulatory reports, financial statements and other governance documentation
  • Manage regulatory inspections and maintain constructive relationships with regulators and other oversight bodies

5. Corporate Finance, Alternative Investments & Product Innovation:

  • Provide leadership over corporate finance, alternative investment and structured investment opportunities
  • Oversee the review and approval of infrastructure project appraisals, funding proposals and investment-related client solutions
  • Support the development of innovative products and services that respond to changing client needs and market opportunities
  • Ensure that corporate finance and alternative investment activities are commercially sound, well-governed and aligned with client mandates
  • Drive the expansion of offshore investment offerings to capture new international market segments

6. Organisational Leadership, Culture & Stakeholder Management:

  • Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing executive and management team
  • Ensure effective organisational structures, performance management systems and human capital capability to deliver the company's strategy
  • Champion the ONE NICO lived experience culture and promote professionalism, accountability, collaboration and ethical conduct
  • Manage key relationships with the Board, NICO Group, clients, regulators, strategic partners and internal stakeholders
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company and ensure seamless execution across all departments

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or related field
  • Chartered Financial Analyst qualification or equivalent investment management professional qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years' senior management experience in investment management, asset management, corporate finance or a closely related financial services environment, preferably within a regulated institution
  • Strong financial modelling, investment appraisal, portfolio analysis and transaction evaluation capability
  • Strong understanding of investment products, financial markets and key stakeholders, including regulators, capital markets institutions, pension funds, institutional clients and commercial banks
  • Membership of a relevant professional body will be an added advantage
