Job Description
Blantyre Baptist Church, a member of the Baptist Convention in Malawi, which operates well-established primary schools and Blantyre Baptist Academy in Blantyre, invites applications from suitably qualified, dynamic, and experienced individuals to fill the position of Chemistry Teacher based at Blantyre Baptist Academy, Nancholi.
Reports To: Principal / Deputy Principal (Academics) / Head of Science Department
Job Purpose:
The purpose of the Secondary School Chemistry Teacher position shall be to provide quality instruction in Chemistry, enabling students to acquire scientific knowledge, practical laboratory skills, critical thinking abilities, and a strong foundation for further education and careers in science-related fields. The teacher shall be responsible for facilitating effective learning, assessing student progress, promoting safe laboratory practices, and contributing to the overall academic and personal development of learners in accordance with the school's educational objectives and curriculum requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate shall:
- Teach Chemistry to secondary school students in accordance with the approved curriculum
- Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, and teaching materials
- Conduct practical laboratory sessions and ensure laboratory safety standards are maintained
- Assess, evaluate, and monitor students' academic progress
- Prepare and administer tests, assignments, and examinations
- Maintain accurate records of students' performance and attendance
- Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students
- Participate in co-curricular activities and school development programs
- Attend staff meetings, professional development activities, and parent consultations as required
- Ensure proper care and management of laboratory equipment and chemicals
- Teach Chemistry in both MANEB and Cambridge curricula in both Junior and Senior Classes
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Education specializing in Chemistry, or a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with a recognized teaching qualification
- Registration with Teachers Council of Malawi
- A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a secondary school environment will be an added advantage
- Strong knowledge of secondary school Chemistry curriculum and laboratory practices
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in the use of modern teaching methods and educational technology
