The company is inviting applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the position of AutoCAD Draftsman at one of its project sites in Rumphi.

JOB PURPOSE

The AutoCAD Draftsman will be responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings, layouts, plans, and as-built drawings for civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical projects using AutoCAD and other Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.



The successful candidate will ensure all drawings comply with project specifications, engineering standards, company procedures, and applicable regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Produce construction drawings, site layouts, profiles, cross-sections, and detailed drawings from sketches, survey data, and engineering designs.
  • Revise and update drawings based on engineers’ comments and project changes.
  • Prepare as-built drawings upon project completion.
  • Maintain drawing registers and document control systems.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with company drafting standards and client specifications.
  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, surveyors, and project teams to obtain accurate design information.
  • Convert hand sketches and field measurements into professional CAD drawings.
  • Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs) by providing drawing measurements where required.
  • Prepare shop drawings for construction activities.
  • Ensure drawing revisions are properly numbered, dated, and archived.
  • Support project planning by producing drawings within required timelines.
  • Conduct site visits to verify dimensions and collect project information when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of project designs and technical information.
  • Assist with printing, plotting, and distribution of engineering drawings.
  • Keep CAD software libraries, templates, and drafting standards up to date.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
  • Certification in AutoCAD or Computer-Aided Design will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in AutoCAD drafting, preferably in construction, civil engineering, mining, infrastructure, or consulting engineering.
  • Experience preparing engineering and construction drawings.
  • Experience producing as-built drawings will be an added advantage.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering and construction drawing standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering designs and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good mathematical and spatial visualization skills.
  • Knowledge of surveying drawings and coordinate systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and document management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
