African Parks manages 24 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Currently, African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, Liwonde National Park and Mangochi Forest Reserve.

African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant position.


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Auto Electrician will report directly to the Workshop Supervisor and be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, installation, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems across the Reserve's fleet, plant, and equipment. The role will ensure that all vehicles and machinery are maintained in a safe, reliable and operational condition.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in vehicles, plant, generators and other operational equipment.
  • Install, service, and maintain electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, lighting, charging systems, starter motors, alternators, sensors, and control units.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and recommend corrective actions.

Fault Diagnosis and Repairs

  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify electrical and electronic faults.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues related to batteries, ignition systems, GPS units, radios, vehicle tracking systems, and other electronic accessories.
  • Ensure repairs are completed efficiently and to acceptable quality standards.

Workshop Operations

  • Support the Workshop Supervisor in planning and prioritizing maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and spare parts used.
  • Assist in monitoring stock levels of electrical components, consumables, and spare parts.

Fleet Reliability and Support

  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained in a roadworthy and operational condition.
  • Provide technical support during emergencies and field breakdowns.
  • Participate in vehicle recovery and repair operations when required.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to workplace health and safety procedures and environmental standards.
  • Ensure the correct use and storage of tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of National Trade Test Grade 1 or its equivalent in Auto Electric Technology.
  • Must have 3 years practical experience in a busy mechanical workshop, working on Toyota Land Cruisers, Isuzu trucks, Massey Ferguson Tractors, Caterpillar grader/TLB and motorcycles.
  • Good troubleshooting or diagnostic skills.
  • Hardworking and trustworthy.
  • Those with a valid motor vehicle driving license will have added advantage.
  • Ability to be organized, flexible, self-motivated and work effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Those with basic knowledge on Motor Vehicle Mechanic will have added advantage.
  • Ability to work long hours in very remote and physically demanding circumstances.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
