Blantyre International University (BIU) invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following positions tenable at its main campus.

The Assistant Librarian will be responsible for supporting the cataloguing and classification of library materials to ensure accurate organization and easy retrieval of resources. The successful candidate will work primarily in the cataloguing section and contribute to maintaining high standards of bibliographic control within the library.

Key Responsibilities

• Cataloguing and classification of library materials using standard systems such as Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and Library of Congress (LC)
• Creating and maintaining accurate bibliographic records
• Ensuring proper indexing and organization of library resources
• Assisting in the management of digital and print collections
• Maintaining consistency and quality in cataloguing processes
• Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian

Qualifications and Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized institution
• Proven knowledge and practical experience in cataloguing systems, particularly DDC and LC
• Strong information technology skills, including familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Koha or similar)
• Good organizational and analytical skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in handling bibliographic data
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
