OVERVIEW

Unik Construction Engineering Malawi Ltd, a leading infrastructure construction enterprise specialising in road works and water engineering projects, is inviting applications from proactive and detail-oriented candidates for the position of Assistant Human Resource Manager based in Lilongwe.

The successful candidate will support HR operations across the company’s head office and multiple project sites, ensuring effective workforce management, employee relations, compliance, and HR service delivery.

POSITION DETAILS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead end-to-end recruitment processes including screening, interview coordination, and onboarding.

• Ensure adequate staffing for head office and various construction project sites.

• Handle employee relations, workplace concerns, disciplinary procedures, and staff communication.

• Manage payroll administration, salary structures, benefits, and pension compliance.

• Support performance appraisal systems, training needs assessment, and employee development programmes.

• Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in compliance with Malawi labour laws.

• Support occupational health and safety management across workplaces.

• Prepare HR reports and workforce planning information for management decision-making.

• Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.

• Perform other HR-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Diploma or above in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related discipline.

• Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in general HR functions.

• Experience in construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors is an added advantage.

• Knowledge of the Malawi Employment Act and labour regulations.

• Experience in recruitment, employee relations, payroll administration, and performance management.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Strong communication skills in English and Chichewa.

• Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and conflict resolution skills.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Employer contributes 10% of basic monthly salary to a registered pension fund, while employees contribute 5%.

• Approved overtime payments provided according to company policy.

• Working hours: Monday to Friday 08:00–17:30 and Saturday 08:00–12:00.
