Timotheos Foundation is a local Malawian Christian charity organisation established to support and care for orphans and other vulnerable children in Malawi. The Foundation is affiliated with CONGOMA and the NGO Board of Malawi.
Job Overview
The Assistant Accountant will support the finance function by processing and reconciling financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with established financial procedures and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer petty cash, cash advances and liquidations.
- Post payments and receipts into QuickBooks.
- Support bank and petty cash reconciliations.
- Prepare bank payment vouchers and ensure proper approvals.
- Prepare and initiate electronic payments through FDH One Click.
- Assist with preparing and processing journal entries.
- Support payroll adjustments for taxes, pensions, loan recovery and Mudi Sacco deductions.
- Organise and distribute employee payslips.
- Prepare school summaries from the Mpamba account and submit them to the Accounts Assistant.
- Reconcile income from school fees, farm operations and other sources.
- Assist with quarterly financial reports.
- Support external audit processes by providing required records.
- Assist with cash disbursements when required.
- Ensure proper filing of vouchers and supporting documents.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Accountant or Manager Finance and Administration.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- At least 2–3 years’ work experience in NGO-related accounting.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks or other accounting systems.
- Interview preparation coaching
